About Nora Vargas
Nora Vargas represents San Diego County’s first supervisorial district. She is the first Latina, first immigrant, first binational leader, and first woman of color to serve on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in its nearly 200-year history. In 2023, she was unanimously elected Chairwoman of the Board. Vargas also serves as Chair of the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Immigration Reform Task Force, where she advocates for fair and humane immigration policies nationwide. Vargas has a strong background in healthcare and education advocacy. Before joining the Board of Supervisors, she served on the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) board and the Southwestern College Governing Board.
