About Stephen Whitburn
Councilmember Stephen Whitburn represents District 3 on the San Diego City Council. A regional leader, he serves as the Chair of the Metropolitan Transit System, the City of San Diego’s Active Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and the Local Agency Formation Commission. Prior to his election in 2020, he had a storied career as an award-winning journalist and later a non-profit director who supported cancer patients and LGBTQ equality. Stephen is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a Leadership Certificate from UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management. He has focused his public service by spearheading initiatives to address homelessness, fighting for more affordable housing, and strengthening public safety in San Diego.
