Voice of San Diego members are dedicated community members who invest in local journalism through a monthly, annual or one-time donation to support our work. Click here to see member benefits and become a member here.

How do I become a Voice of San Diego member?

How can I check my membership status?
If you set up a payment on our checkout page:
To check your membership status, go to our contributor portal and enter the email address associated with your donations. Check your inbox and click on the magic link sent to you. This will open a portal that shows your donation history. Any donations made on our checkout page within the last 365 days registers you as a member!
If you donated through a method outside of our checkout page:
You can also email membership@voiceofsandiego.org to confirm your membership level. Contributions made outside of our contribution page are not displayed in the portal but are still counted when determining your membership level.
Where does my donation go?
As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Voice of San Diego is committed to providing the San Diego community with the free service of investigative news. Your donation allows us to continue running a newsroom while keeping high quality, accurate information accessible to everyone. Donations go to our operating costs such as the software we use to deliver newsletters, equipment for our podcast, and salaries to bring in trusted journalists. Without our community support, Voice of San Diego would not exist.
Is my donation fully tax-deductible?
As a government recognized 501c3 your donation is tax deductible to the extent of the governing law. Please consult with your tax advisor, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) publication 526 and publication 1771 and/or your country’s laws and regulations. If you need an itemized list of member benefits, a tax receipt or your donation history, please email membership@voiceofsandiego.org .
How do I view my donation history?
If you set up a payment on our checkout page:
To check your donation history, go to our contributor portal and enter the email address used when setting up your payment. You’ll receive a secure magic link through that email; click it to enter your portal securely.
Your donation history will be displayed in the portal. To see all of your recurring donations, select your subscription to view its details.
If you donated through a method outside of our checkout page:
Please contact us at membership@voiceofsandiego.org or call 619-325-0525 to request your donation history. Contributions made outside of our contribution page will not appear in your portal.
Note: In December 2023, all Voice donations were transferred to our new contributor portal. Any pledge made before this date may show a start date of December 2023.
How do I cancel my donation?
If you set up a payment on our checkout page:
To cancel your donation, go to our contributor portal and enter the email address used when setting up your payment. You’ll receive a secure magic link through that email; click it to enter your portal securely.
Select your subscription and click “cancel contribution” to confirm the change.
If you donated through a method outside of our checkout page:
Please contact us at membership@voiceofsandiego.org or 619-325-0525 to cancel your recurring donation. Contributions made outside of our contribution page will not appear in your portal.
How do I update my credit card information?
If you set up a payment on our checkout page:
To update your card, go to our contributor portal and enter the email address used when setting up your payment. You’ll receive a secure magic link through that email; click it to enter your portal securely.
Select your subscription to reveal its billing details (name on file, card number, zip code ). Enter your new billing details before confirming your changes – the updated card information will be used when your subscription next renews.
If you donated through a method outside of our checkout page:

How do I modify the amount I donate?
If you set up a payment on our checkout page:
To update the amount of your subscription, go to our contributor portal and enter the email address used when setting up your payment. You’ll receive a secure magic link through that email; please click it to enter your portal securely.
Select your subscription to reveal its billing details. Enter the new amount in the ‘Amount’ field, and confirm your changes to update the subscription. You will be billed this amount when your subscription next renews.

Please contact us at membership@voiceofsandiego.org or call 619-325-0525 to update your payment method. Contributions made outside of our contribution page will not appear in your portal.
How can I get a refund?
To receive a refund, please email membership@voiceofsandiego.org. Please note that refunds take 7 to 10 business days to process.
Content and Account Support
How do I create a Voice account?
A Voice account is used so you can read the Politics Report and add comments under articles. An account is NOT automatically created after you donate or subscribe.
Register your account here. Please be sure that your email address is the same as the email you donate under to access the Politics Report.
What do I do if I forget my username or password?
Reset your password or username here.
How do I access member only content (like the Politics Report)?
To read the Politics Report on a browser, make sure to log into your account first. Once you are logged in, you will be able to read member only content.
Note: You must create an account on our site with the same email address you used when donating for our system to recognize your membership.
To receive the Politics Report newsletter in your inbox, please subscribe here. If you do not receive the report, send an email to membership@voiceofsandiego.org to check if you have multiple accounts.
Any member only emails such as Inside Voice are delivered to the primary email address associated with your donations.
Why can’t I access content even though I’m logged in?
If you are trying to access member only content and cannot please follow the steps below:
Ensure you’re using the same email address you used when you donated.
Try clearing your cache.
Double check that your membership is up to date on contributor portal.
Contact us to confirm your membership.

Why can’t I comment on a story?
To comment on a story, you must be logged in. If you are logged in and cannot comment our site, you may have been blocked due to previous comments that were flagged as spam or inappropriate.
We expect all commenters to be constructive and civil. We reserve the right to delete comments without explanation. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.
